MEET THE SPEAKERS

Riverview Fire & Rescue
Deputy Chief Milt Cawley

Milt has been in Fire Service since 1968, the first 29 years in the Military, serving at 10 different bases in Canada and on 2 ships. He completed the Military Engineering Course and in the fall of 1977 Captain Milt Cawley changed uniforms to join Riverview Fire & Rescue, where he continues to serve.

Milt has attained IFSAC Seals in many fields, including Level 4 Fire Service Instructor, Level 3 Firefighter, Level 3 Fire Officer, Level 3 Fire Inspector, Level 3 Advanced Fire Investigation, Fire Apparatus Driver Operator, Airport Firefighter, and POL Soil Control. Milt's passion for Fire Prevention has led him to taking Public Education of Fire Prevention to new levels.

His design and development of Fire Truck 11 ½ is only one indication of that. Surrounding Fire Departments have benefited from his willingness to provide information and guidance. He is highly respected for his personality as much as his expertise. We are honoured to have Deputy Chief Milt Cawley returning to speak at this year's Seminar.

Brian McBain, ULC

Brian McBain works with ULC’s Regulatory Services Department as Senior Regulatory Services Representative.  Brian is based in Quebec City, and provides support to Regulators in Eastern Canada.

Brian has been with ULC for the last seven years.  Prior to Regulatory Services, Brian was a Field Inspector where he would visit manufacturers to ensure compliance to ULC’s Follow-up Service Program.  Before joining ULC, Brian spent eight years with a national fire protection service company as an inspection manager for the Fire Suppression Fixed Systems and Portable Fire Extinguisher Divisions.

Brian is a graduate of the Fire Protection Technician Program of Algonquin College in Ottawa and has more than 17 years of volunteer firefighter experience. He is currently a lieutenant and responsible for training and fire prevention. Brian has completed the NFPA 1001 Level II Professional Firefighter Program and the NFPA 1031 Level I Fire Inspector Program.

Paul (P.J.) Veniot

Paul (P. J.) Veniot, born in Bathurst, graduated from St. Thomas University in Fredericton in 1977 with a B.A. in psychology. He then attended law school at U.N.B. in the same city, graduating in 1980. He was admitted as a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick in 1981. He was in private practice from 1981 to 1985 in the Bathurst area. In 1985 he was hired as a Crown prosecutor and worked out of the Tracadie office until June of 1999, when he returned to Bathurst after being appointed as the Regional Director of Prosecutions for the north-east. He continues to occupy this position. He has extensive experience in major Criminal Code prosecutions as well as those under provincial legislation. He was appointed to the position of Queen’s Counsel in 2006.

Paul spoke at our 2010 and 2011 Seminars, and was such an asset to our members, that they requested he return this year, and he has been gracious enough to do so.

Nick Davis, Atlantic Burn Camp

Nick was taken to the hospital in Baddeck and then airlifted to Halifax where he spent the next 3 ½ months. The doctors had to amputate some fingers on both hands and also his left leg below the knee. Nick will share his personal story of how he was determined to live and get his life back.
